About
Dr. Coach Megan James, PT, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy, USATF Level 2 coach, and RunDNA gait analyst — helping Capital Region runners rehab, rebuild, and keep going.

The clinician behind Immersion PT
Megan James has been transforming lives since earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2014. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the APTA New York Chapter, participates in the Running and Female Athlete Special Interest Groups (SIGs), serves as Vice Chair of the APTA New York Eastern District, and leads outreach and education as Education co-chair for the Running SIG.
Beyond the clinic, Megan is a competitive runner with experience from the mile to the marathon — with a particular fondness for 15K and half-marathon events. As a USATF Level 2 Certified Coach and a RunDNA Certified Running Gait Analyst, she has coached and rehabilitated athletes at high school, open, and masters levels, with a deep understanding of biomechanics and the training and recovery programs that help athletes perform their best.
Outside of her professional and athletic pursuits, Megan is a wife, mom, daughter, sister, and aunt who treasures her family. She also finds joy in baking with local ingredients, embracing the wisdom of Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine.”
A lifelong learner and teacher, she blends evidence-based practice with a compassionate touch and over a decade of experience. She values collaboration across specialties — physicians, registered dietitians, pharmacists, personal trainers, chiropractors, psychologists, massage therapists, pelvic physical therapists, and more — so clients get the comprehensive support they need.

A clinician who still lines up
The work she gives runners is the work she does herself.

What people are saying
“As a runner, going into my first appointment with a pulled groin, I was nervous and feeling sorry for myself. Being sidelined with an injury is one of the worst nightmares for an athlete. I quickly learned how lucky I was to be in the hands of Megan James. Her passion, curiosity, and determination gave me comfort in knowing that she would get me back to the sport I love. She was compassionate but also, her hard-working demeanor let me know that she expected me to do my homework. My time in Megan’s care gave me skills that I will use for a lifetime. The work she gave me is a set of small exercises I literally do to this day, 5 years later, any time I feel “off”. Her goal wasn’t only to get me back to running, but also to help me fix the cause so that hopefully I won’t have that injury again. By working together, we were able to accomplish that! If you are looking for a physical therapist who gets how vital it is for you to get back to the sport you love, who has the drive to find the root cause of your injury, and who has the tools to give you solutions to take with you that will help you beyond your time with her, Megan James is for you!”
— M.D., former patient & coached athlete “I would recommend Dr. Megan James to any of my family members in need of treatment. As a colleague who has had the privilege to learn and grow alongside her, I can attest to the fact that she uses the most clinically proven treatments and reaches the best possible outcome for each of her patients. You will not be disappointed when in the care of Megan.”
— Dr. Kevin Esperti, Physical Therapist “Meg was my physical therapist when I was having pain in my hip and lower back. I was starting to run again after having two children, but became unable to run due to those issues. I went to see Meg to get me back on track. She helped me to stretch and strengthen the muscles that were bothering me, and also reminded me that I was coming back from two C-sections, and that my core (abs, back, etc.) was understandably weak. Meg developed a holistic treatment that addressed the specific areas that were giving me pain and the areas around them. I have been running without pain since then, and continue to incorporate the strength and stretching exercises Meg taught me.”
